Back again
The past couple of months have been very disheartening with the mishmash of events and confusions. Iraq, the main show, is the most difficult to handle. The rhetoric from the Administration is so monotonous in its vacuity that it make me cringe to think it is the world Superpower speaking, not for the majority of Americans but for itself and its misguided policies. For whatever reason the talks with Iran have begun. Even Rice is refraining from Bush's bellicosity. Where this will lead is hard to imagine, given the past track record.
I've been following Salon's commentary. It is obviously liberal but for the most part seems more constructive and objective than Fox, Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, and the ridiculous Beltway Boys. One segment is blogs, both left and right. They too show a marked contrast. Both offer extremes but the right sound too strident most of the time.
It is becoming evident that the September evaluation in Iraq will be summarized as needing "more of the same" for an indefinite period. We are stuck with Bush for the duration of his term. If public opinion doesn't give the Democrats, I hate say it, a solid 2/3s of both houses but we get a Republican President, we may be in for a long
protracted period of playing policeman to the world. My view is that we must allow other points of view to prevail. It is untenable to attempt to bring all of the world's people into line with our system. It unquestionably is a good one but still not perfect by any means. The neo-con concept of world control is not doing us any good and we must change that policy. It has created world wide resentment and opposition. We must be good neighbors and not the bully of the block.
